PRACTICAL APPLICATION AND ANALYSIS OF MICRO CHP
Published 01/01/2015
2015 50TH INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITIES POWER ENGINEERING CONFERENCE (UPEC)
In this paper, a case study has been performed and analysed on a Narrow boat as practical application of Micro CHP. The Narrow boat system comprises a diesel engine and various other ancillary equipment. The engine was tested using a standard test procedure and the corresponding engine torque and power, thermal efficiency, fuel input energy and fuel consumption figures were obtained for the range of engine speeds and loads. The results showed that, the thermal efficiency at various speed and different power output not greatly affected and the engine is most efficient between 1000 and 1100 rpm.

Utilisation of micro combined heat and power system using alternative fuels
Published 01/01/2007
2007 42ND INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITIES POWER ENGINEERING CONFERENCE, VOLS 1-3, 1164 - 1168
Combined heat and power (CHP) systems simultaneously deliver electric, thermal and mechanical energy services and thus uses fuel with great efficiency. The recovered energy can be used for heating or cooling purposes, eliminating the need for a separate boiler. Significant reduction in energy saving, pollutions and carbon emissions can be achieved from the improved efficiency of fuel use.
The present work concentrated on the Micro CHP engine modification which describes the overall necessary changes to the various components of the engine. The work also focuses on the performance of the new concept of Mico to CHP with two different new fuels. The first fuel was bio diesel which consisted of 80% waste vegetable oil and 20% animal fat and the second fuel was 90% sesame seed oil mixed with 10% white diesel. Using these fuels has had the positive outcome of reduced pollution and increased energy saving.
