Abstract
Frugal innovation (FI) has emerged as a significant research phenomenon due to its potential role in driving low-cost, creative, and environmentally sustainable solutions within organisations. The increasing body of research highlights FI's crucial role across diverse organisational contexts while identifying various impediments to its successful transition. Among these, leadership emerges as a key enabler, driving its implementation and effectiveness. The extant literature primarily explores the general link between conventional leadership styles such as sustainable, transformational, and collaborative leadership and FI. However, a notable gap persists in the literature regarding how entrepreneurial leadership (EL) and its underlying characteristics drive FI and sustainable development. This chapter aims to address this gap by examining how the specific traits of EL facilitate the adoption of FI. Additionally, it introduces a conceptual model grounded in the interplay of EL, FI, and sustainable development. This chapter offers valuable insights for both policy and practice, expanding the theoretical understanding of FI and providing practical recommendations for organisations seeking to adopt FI strategies.
